Finished version of a study of a character I came up with a while ago - Caernûn of the Mound [link]
I wanted to do another drawing of him, closer in, from a better angle and with more detail.

Neither is he a lord of the dark nor the light, neither benevolent nor malign.
Ancient as the land, older than the mound he raised.
In the hollow hill is his hall, all woodsmoke and leafmold.
The scent of the den, the hibernating beast,
all carnal sweat and terrible strength unfettered.
And his names have been manyfold.

EDIT: Adjusted the forearm a bit. Not perfect but I am happier with it now.

Oh, I remember you drawing this character a while back! o.o I recall being utterly awe-struck by it as well, but I can see in this picture that you have improved as vastly as the contrast in decibels since then. Even as a sketch, I was positively eager to see the final result (Even if I didn't have the time or motivation to say anything), and now that I have, I'm absolutely mind-blown!! O_O As much as I hate to admit this little vice (If I could call it that. XD ), I rather admire the intermittent works that convey a regal beauty rather than gore every now and then, as it really refreshes us with something new (Make no mistake, though, I still favour your macabre art overall. XD No one can rival such brutal morbidness in the concepts), and this is no exception... The angle and position in which he folds his arms to further inflate the confidence in his posture conveys an air of might, power and majesty, and the small volumes of shading suffused over his bulging, muscular arms define the indentations of an entire series of muscles that further boast his strength. The lighting, however different in ambiance the composition provides, is, as always, marvelously executed with a good understanding on the direction of the light source, and gives further definition to the details, be it the bulges of his heavily built physique or the greatly pronounced cheek bones, and I love the way the eyes eerily reflect of the almost nondescript skin tones. :) The crevices of the horns and the finest hairs suffusing his form are so fine and intricate, it borders realistic! I especially love how the character fades into the murk of the mist eddying around the scene here-.... well, I always have admired that quality, but you seem to do so with such grace and magnificence in your works of recent. o.o But what really caught my eye, here, and what I consider an improvement to the previous piece in stark dichotomy is the markings.... Such a gorgeous hue of blue, and not so garishly alight, giving the viewer the impression that whatever unearthly power teems through his system courses beneath, in lieu of the exterior, and the carvings of the markings are so elaborate and realistic! It really seems to give the creature the feel of being existent.

Overall, amazing. o.o

thanks for that. hehe you certainly are back :D
it was fun to do another study of this character, one more a portrait than the previous one. Looks a bit like a bouncer on the door to some sylvan underworld.
Thanks (as always) for taking the time to look him over and comment so descriptively ;)
